Drug and Alcohol Counselling for Families and Individuals to provide a link for individuals, families, and communities who have been impacted by substance misuse.

"The Link Foundation AOD was founded by Paula and Renee, women who shared a passion for the AOD and mental health sectors. They noticed that most service providers focused solely on substance users or their families, but not both. However, research has demonstrated that involving families and communities in recovery improves outcomes. The Link Foundation AOD was established to address this gap and offer all-encompassing therapy, training, advocacy and support to anyone impacted by substance use.

VISION

Our vision is to establish connection for families and  individuals impacted by substance misuse to create a community of support, empathy and recovery.

IS TOUGH LOVE THE ANSWER?

Tough love, although well-intentioned, may not always be effective in addressing substance dependence for several reasons. Firstly, tough love strategies such as ultimatums and withdrawal of support can lead to feelings of rejection and abandonment in individuals struggling with substance dependence, potentially exacerbating their sense of isolation and triggering further substance use as a coping mechanism.

Additionally, tough love approaches often fail to address the underlying factors contributing to substance dependence, such as trauma, mental health issues, or socioeconomic challenges. Focusing solely on punitive measures and imposing strict boundaries, Tough Love neglects the importance of addressing these root causes and providing holistic support for recovery.

In contrast, harm reduction acknowledges the complexities of substance dependence and recognises that recovery is not always linear. It prioritises compassion, safety, and harm minimisation over punitive measures, offering individuals struggling with substance dependence the support they need to make positive changes at their own pace.

At Link Foundation, AOD harm reduction is an effective, compassionate, and evidence-based approach to addressing substance dependence. By focusing on the individual's well-being and utilising evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, and family systems therapy, we aim to provide comprehensive support that promotes recovery and fosters healing within their family and support network.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

At the Link Foundation, we recognise the profound mental impact that substance misuse can have on family members. That's why we offer counselling not only to individuals struggling with substance use but also to their families. Our trained counsellors understand the importance of addressing the holistic needs of the entire family unit.

Unlike other services that primarily focus on the individual using substances, we emphasise the importance of involving the entire family in the recovery process. We believe that actual long-term maintenance and recovery require healing and support for everyone affected by substance misuse within the family. By ensuring that all family members are on the same page and receive the necessary counselling and support, we aim to promote healing and resilience across the entire family unit.
